      virtual photography for flickr cover

If you are a photographer and have your streaming on Flickr you already know: the platform, launched in 2004 as a tool of Game Neverending, a virtual world developed by canadian Ludicorp, bought by Yahoo!, then by Verizon and finally by SmugMug, declared that from January 8, 2019 free accounts won’t be able to upload over 1,000 photos or videos. fotografia virtuale flickr

      Virtual photographers are real photographers

The news has generated a certain hustle and bustle within the user community of virtual worlds like Second Life, The Sims, World of Warcraft etc, since people feared that “virtual” photographers were not considered photographers in all respects and therefore their images could be simply eliminated with effect from next January 8th.

Intervening in an online forum Flickr’s Ceo, Don MacAskill, btw, denied this indiscretion: “virtual photographers are photographers” explained MacAskill, adding “I don’t know where the idea that you aren’t “real” photographers, or that virtual photography is somehow spam, came from but that’s not from me. You are welcome at Flickr”. fotografia virtuale flickr bis

From January new and more binding Tos

Of course be considered in all respects photographers also means being subject to all the new Flickr’s Terms of service  (Tos), particularly where you are asked not to use Flickr for unauthorized commercial activities: “if you have a free account and don’t have a Flickr Pro account, you may not link directly to a shopping cart, checkout page, or pricing pages on other sites, and you may not list prices on your Flickr photo descriptions”.

In short, Flickr loves Second Life and virtual worlds in general, the “virtual photosand the many and still very active communities that have arisen around them, like the group Mondi Virtuali – Virtual Worlds (to discover follow this link: https://www.flickr.com/groups/mondivirtuali) from which the images of this article are also drawn (by Paola Mills, Giovanna Silvestri, and Brida Skynny), as other social media, Facebook for first, decided to try to monetize its services better.

Free meals, if they ever existed, are now a memory. Animatronic Caparezza cover

It has been the title track of Prisoner 709, the seventh album by the Italian rapper Caparezza: very catchy song (better: “a bit too much radio, who cares until“), Ti Fa Stare Bene (literally: it makes you feel good) has also obtained excellent feedback on Youtube with overe 32 million views a year after launch, thanks to a very nice video in which, among other things, an animatronic puppet.

          An animatronic for Caparezza

You got it right: an animated puppet like those in the video game Fnaf (Five Nights at Freddy’s) of which we have so often spoken to you, but fortunately of a very different nature from the latter. One of the most frequent questions also among the comments posted on the Youtube channel of the singer-songwriter of Molfetta concerns who made this puppet. Luna's Puppets Caparezza

          Let’s know Otto better

It is the Otto puppet produced by Luna’s Puppets in 17 color variations for the body (and 8 color variations for the animatronic eyes), at the base price of $ 280 without electronic components (with electronic components the price rises to $ 1,150 for thefull body” version, like the one used in the Caparezza video, to $ 1,080 for the puppet with only the upper part of the body).

          Very versatile animatronics

The American society created ten years ago by Kevin and Andrea Gorby produces all its puppets strictly by hand, over the years also used for Kia commercials, for many theatrical performances and for animation activities for children like KidzWorld. animatronico ti fa stare bene

          Many have already appreciated them

A list of satisfied customers that has now been enriched with a further prestigious name, that of the Italian rapper Caparezza, in fact, that for the realization of the video of Ti Fa Stare Bene turned to Videoproject and to the direction of Fabrizio Conte (who with Morris Bragazzi also edited the screenplay for the video). Nicolò Lo Cicero (Vitaminaeci), who we owe the image of our cover, was the animator of Otto.

We liked a lot the video and the presence of Otto and you? Bryn Oh what the orphans saw cover

OMG, how long I have not been back in Second Life to visit a virtual artistic exhibition! his time the opportunity was offered to me by Bryn Oh (Canadian artist active in the Linden Lab virtual world

of whom Mondivirtuali.it talked about on several occasions) exhibition entitled “What the Orphans Sawhosted as always at Immersiva.

Bryn Oh What the Orphans Saw

          What the orphans saw

That the orphans of Bryn see are paintings, rides, unicorns fighting with clouds and cats and strange animals that look like a cross between giraffes and Salvador Dalì‘s elephants with very thin legs.

If you go to see the show, be careful: Bryn set the environment so that you are at twilight, with very little light available.

Bryn Oh What the Orphans Saw little secrets

          Darkness holds little secrets

Serve, this poor light, to encourage an orphans game of hide-and-seek, to make their presence and their secrets more intimate, to make their imagination fly outside the physical limits of the orphanage and their condition.

This at least is what I saw there, you go to see and tell me what feelings has caused you.

Bryn Oh What the Orphans Saw little orphans

15 years of Second Life have not passed in vain

It is a pleasure to see that despite 15 years of activity and despite the hype for Second Life has died and buried long ago, Linden Lab’s platform is still a prolific environment in terms of the creativity of its most active users. So another 15 of these years, Second Life (and congratulations to Bryn Oh, as always).

Holograms and AR viewer at work

Do you remember John Anderton, police captain who in the 2054’s Washington described in Minority Report viewed information on potential criminals simply by shaking hands in the air, hanks to a futuristic hologram system and manual controls? Well, 2054 is still far away, but the idea of replacing office equipment with holograms has made its way.

In San Francisco, in particular, u startup, Meta, developed augmented reality devices that overlap holographic images to the real world. In this way, a user can manipulate a 3D model with his own hands, or browse web pages, send mail, write codes that float on a virtual screen.

          Chinese investors like Meta

The idea, as stated in an interview with Bloomberg by Meta’s founder and Ceo, the thirty-one year old Israeli Meron Gribetz (who you can see in this photo of Abhi Suryawanshi), is to “abolish the tyranny of the modern officereplacing monitors, keyboards and tomorrow the same locations with holograms.

          Meta Meron_Gribetz by Abhi Suryawanshi

Gribetz decided to start from his employees, who more and more often see their cubicles replaced with virtual reality and holograms devices. Founded in 2012, Meta collected 50 million dollars last year from Chinese investors like the Lenovo group and Tencent Holding, confirming China’s interest in the race to virtual reality and augmented reality.

Goal: an AR more usable than an iPhone

Meta’s ultimate goal is to make its augmented reality technology an extension of the real world that allows people to interact with holograms in the same way that they interact with real objects. Gribetz has no doubt that the AR hardware will quickly become a widespread product, so he decided to focus on perfecting the software, with the goal of making reality augmented ten times easier to use than an Apple iPhone.

The beginnings were not the easiest: the first tests were performed on Meta engineers, whom used software that was not always compatible with holographic devices. In addition, many found it difficult to continue to develop codes while they were testing devices which for some created confusion and gave the feeling like being on a boat.

          The beginnings were not easy

At the end Gribetz he had to give his engineers to go back to using computers and keyboards, experimenting with his new devices on smaller groups of employees of other functions like marketing or sales.

          Meta AR ologram visor

Gradually, hand tracking and image stability have improved, while Meta employees thanks to a company hackathon developed many apps including a 3D data visualization tool and an app for holographic post-it.

It has been realized that for now the technology of augmented reality and holograms facilitate the carrying out of some works, but they make other tasks more difficult. If convincing Meta employees to adopt holographic virtual reality devices it was in some cases difficult, you can well understand how difficult it is to convince the general public.

The perfect office according to Meta

This is why many companies in the sector use an evangelist” (those who are familiar with Second Life maybe will remember that for years Linden Lab too used some like Reuben Steiger), who for Meta is the vice president, Ryan Pamplin.

If in reality the office, like that of Gribetz, isminimal”, with only a white desk with some prize on it and a few newspapers, Wearing his headset, though, Pamplin enters an ideal office, with photos of his girlfriend on the walls, a Steve Jobs holographic bust, a Tesla 3 model floating nearbye and a YouTube video of Katy Perry playing from a midair screen. John Anderton would have found it very well.
