June 27, 2016 Second Life officially turns 13 since its public opening and celebrates it with an event known as SL13B (Secnd Life 13th Birtday): not too bad for an online virtual reality platform which, after being talked about in the whole world in 2007, was left for dead many times over the following years, but in reality is still attended by over half a million users, about 40 thousand of which are “premium”, and is still able to generate about 4 million dollars of monthly revenue for Linden Lab (whose Ceo, Ebbe Altberg, took part with his avatar, Ebbe Linden, in a meeting “in world” withSecond Life users community during the celebrations of SL13B), according to data available on Grid Survey.
Second Life, 13 years online
While from year to year the number of Sims due to host the platform “birthday” celebrations in Second Life is being cut (this year there are just 17 sims, live events go on till June 26, but Sims will remain set up and can be visited up to July 7), users keep seeking to improve quality of their contents produced and distributed within the platform.
In 13 years technical and graphic development has been valuable, altought it is a closed a little scalable system, so please go and take a look by yourself, following one of the many links suggested by the blog dedicated to the celebrations which in recent years are run no more by Linden Lab but directly by users community of Second Life, here.
